Tips & Tricks
TIP - Utilizing the Action Recorder feature in AutoCAD 2009 is a great way to streamline repetitive tasks. Accessible through the "Tools" panel on the workspace ribbon, you can simply record a macro of various commands and then execute the entire string with a single click of your mouse button.

TRICK - Here’s good news for those of us who don’t have $4,300 USD conveniently located underneath our SpacePilot 3D mouse controller… Autodesk has recently acquired the original technology of the acclaimed iLogic system from Autodesk Authorized Developer Logimetrix, Inc. (who previously offered the rules-based design system for just that) and has made the feature available for download through their Subscription Center.  Exclusively available for Autodesk Inventor Subscription customers through the Subscription Center (http://subscription.autodesk.com ), customers can now download and utilize the rules-based plug-in to easily create and edit objects based of their own defined parameters.

To help explain some of the many benefits of utilizing the Inventor iLogic feature, we are going to use the example of declaring a rule that will control the quantity and diameters of bolt holes that are created depending on the overall length of a bracket. For instance, let’s say the bracket’s overall length is 8”, the iLogic parameters will be referenced and two bolt holes will automatically be created and placed with the declared diameter of .125”.  If we then modify the length of the bracket to extend to 16”, then two additional bolt holes of .125” will automatically be created at equal spacing referencing off of the first holes location.  If that wasn’t enough, iLogic allows you to automatically create ribs, add additional support beams, and even alter an entire structures material if its load exceeds a certain weight.  Essentially, using the iLogic system allows you to create and modify objects on the fly by utilizing a series of “IF–THEN” statements, saving you both time and effort.

For those readers who currently have an existing Autodesk Subscription Center account and would like additional information regarding this new plug-in, you can access the Inventor 2009 iLogic page where you can download the iLogic Feature plug-in, access tutorial PDF files, and view a Windows Media Player presentation using the following link: http://subscription.autodesk.com/sp/servlet/download/item?siteID=11564774&id=12550233

For those readers who do not currently have an Autodesk Subscription Center and would like to view more information about the service, please follow this link to learn more; http://subscription.autodesk.com.

*The Inventor iLogic 2009 Add-in is available as English software only, and it can be installed and used on any language version of Autodesk Inventor 2009 family of software products.
